Flashbangs - also known as stun grenades - are used in many operations by special police, Bundeswehr and customs forces.
The target person is briefly incapacitated by a flash and one or more detonations so that safe access can be carried out.
These flashbangs have proven themselves very well, but they also have several disadvantages: pyrotechnics, explosives, open fire and a considerable amount of smoke. These stun grenades are not entirely harmless for users of the police, Bundeswehr and customs.
If thrown too late, it can cause serious injuries to the hand; if thrown too early, the perpetrator may throw it back, which can also lead to serious injuries to the emergency services.
Because of the fire, the use of these flashbangs is also prohibited on gas stations, ships, chemical warehouses, gas plants or threatening situations where attackers have spread flammable liquids, for example.
Unfortunately, because of the smoke produced, sprinkler systems are often triggered, which doesn't exactly make it easier to use and can be expensive.
